Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use my child’s Flexible Free Entitlement?
Yes we do accept the FFE. If your child attends one day a week with us it uses 9 and a 1/2 hours of their entitlement during term time.
What about going to the toilet?
We have a toilet tent which is always available at each day camp and the children are aware where it is situated. In the tent there is a camping toilet and all relevant items for good hygiene. (Wipes, antibacterial hand sanitizer etc.) With practitioners always available to lend a hand if needed. As with all activities within the woods children are encouraged to be as self-reliant as possible.
What happens in bad weather? What clothing is required?
Weather does not stop play! As long as children are dressed appropriately, the weather really doesn’t affect our adventures in the woods. This is why we have a Kit List and an enrolment fee which includes a set of waterproof clothing (dungarees and a coat). Have a look at the Testimonials page for parents’ thoughts and advice.
Does my child need to attend everyday?
We have a minimum of one day a week, but children can attend more should you/they wish. We have found that children who start attending one day a week soon seem to be attending more!
What if my child needs a snooze?
That’s no problem! We have a tent with a sleeping mat and sleeping bag. Also, during the warmer months, we have a couple of hammocks should any child need a rest.
What if a child needs regular medication?
All practitioners have paediatric first aid training – should your child need for example, an inhaler – we are there to assist. This would only take place when relevant documents have been completed.
Who provides food?
Parents are required to send their child / children with a packed lunch. This should consist of food that you know your child will eat as lots of energy is required for our daily fun! We provide snacks and dependent on the time of year, this will vary. Fresh water is always available too!
Where are you?
We are based in a beautiful village called Tockholes which is easily accessible from Blackburn, Darwen, Chorley, Bolton, Belmont, and Abbey Village – and also close to junctions 3 and 4 of the M65. Have a look at our base camp on a map here.
